Plumbers, electricians, roofers and other mobile trades often travel to customers instead of serving them at a shop. Google provides a service-area setup for eligible businesses, but your profile needs to represent how the business actually operates.
Choose the correct business type
If customers visit a staffed location during the stated hours, the profile may show that address. If you travel to customers and do not receive them at your base, Google says a service-area business should hide its address from the public. A business that both serves customers at a location and travels to jobs may have different requirements. Check Google's current instructions rather than guessing.
Set a realistic area
List places where you genuinely take work and can meet your usual response times. Do not add towns you rarely serve to try to appear in more searches. A profile should help customers decide whether to contact you, not imply coverage you cannot provide.
Avoid duplicate profiles
Do not create a separate listing for each town, van, or service if they are not separate eligible businesses or locations. Duplicate or misleading profiles can confuse customers and may breach Google's representation guidelines.
Keep the same service area and service descriptions on your website, profile and customer messages. If your area changes, update the profile and explain any limits plainly. Our local SEO guide for tradesmen explains how the profile fits with your website.
Google's official pages cover service-area businesses and business representation guidelines. Eligibility and interface details can change, so use the current help pages when editing your listing.
