For an electrician, a good post can show careful workmanship without turning the customer’s property into a public record. The strongest profile makes it clear what work you do, where you work and how to ask about a job.
Set expectations on your profile
Describe the services you genuinely provide—such as lighting, additions, fault finding or renovation work—and state your service area. Only name a trade body, registration or qualification if it is current and relevant to your business. Do not imply that every job comes with the same inspection or certification; requirements depend on the work and circumstances.
Pick content that helps a homeowner understand the work
Useful examples include a finished lighting installation, a neat visible detail, a before-and-after pair the customer has approved, or a short explanation of how you plan a job in an occupied home. Use a caption to explain the brief and the scope, not just “another one done.”
If you explain a technical topic, keep it general. Do not tell a stranger to open equipment, touch wiring or attempt a repair based on an Instagram comment. Encourage them to contact a suitably competent professional for an assessment.
Protect information in the frame
Electrical photos can contain more than the finished fitting. Check the image for customer names, addresses, alarm panels, access codes, labels and paperwork. A photo of a consumer unit or equipment label may reveal details the customer would rather not publish. Ask before photographing or posting work in a home, and accept a refusal without pressure.
Our guide to photo privacy for tradesmen covers consent and identifying details. Google's Business Profile guidance recommends clear, well-lit photos that represent the business accurately.
Keep each post straightforward
Use a few relevant tags rather than a long block of unrelated ones. Say what service the example represents, use a location only if appropriate and include one clear next step, such as asking about availability. A post should not promise that an Instagram message is an emergency response channel.
Keep a small set of approved project examples organised in a tradesman portfolio. For ideas that do not depend on a dramatic transformation, read what to post when a job has no before-and-after.
